HIP HOP FOR PEACE: LUC x Rebel Babel x Universal Hip Hop Museum 2020

Hip Hop 4 Peace is a project prepared in cooperation with NOLA Jazz Museum, UHHM and Polish partner cities: Krakow, Gdansk, Poznan and Wroclaw.

This musical celebration is an ode to the Peace Rhapsody. Hip Hop for Peace is an international concert featuring DJs and Brass bands. This project came about as a collaboration with New York’s Universal Hip Hop Museum and United Nations on the International Day of Peace. We dedicate this part to our neighbors on Belarus.

Since 2016 Rebel Babel Ensemble plays around the World for peace and dialog, meeting musicians, DJ鈥檚 and rappers from different countries. The orchestra of orchestras shows the beauty of different languages in musical and lingual meaning. Outstanding Polish and American DJ鈥檚 (Dj Eprom, Dj Decks, Rob Swift, Dj Riz, Dilly Rowe) scratched with original speeches by Nobel Peace Prize winners – among others Martin Luther King and Malal Yousafzai. Dilly cut up samples from infamous Hip Hops songs such as U.N.I.T.Y. by Queen Latifah and ‘One Love’ by Nas ft Q Tip. They are accompanied by orchestras from San Francisco, Krakow, Gdansk, Wroclaw and, among others, the Grammy Award-winning orchestra – Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans.

The artists have jointly shot an intercontinental concert based on cult hip-hop fragments from the 90s arranged for the Big Band by L.U.C and Pawel Hulisz. Rebel Babel Ensemble in 5 years has met over 10836 musicians from 15 countries. The Big Band fulfills the dreams of young musicians, combining them with their idols at festival concerts and ecological and acoustic performances. The touring orchestra always plays with local musicians, showing the beauty of different regions and cultures.

This project was especially important to me because of my Polish heritage. I am half Polish and to be able to work with my mother culture has always been a dream. I have family in Wroclaw, Warsaw and Krakow, and for Wroclaw and Krakow to have been a partner city is just crazy exciting to me. Big up all the heads in Poland. Hopefully we will come through and perform there some time!

The project is also powerful to me because of my passion for social justice. Campaigning for better rights, fighting racism and discrimination and education around race and gender equality are integral to my values. Music is one of the universal languages and to be able to convey messages of peace, unity and love through a medium which provides so much prosperity for me has been a beautiful experience. I hope you enjoy this video and the meaning behind it. PEACE! (no pun intended 馃檪 )
